LEARN CHRISTIAN MUSIC

The above picture is part of the SINGAPURA section of the website.

Yes, Singapore! First World country and always the only few Asian cities to make it on the Monocle Quality of Life Index, you also have the standard Quite Ugly Bunting Designs featuring the not-classic-like-Futura IKEA font: Verdana Bold!

------------------------------------------------------

Spot the Difference

LOOK AT THE ABOVE AND COMPARE THE BELOW:

THE VERY SIMILAR FONT IS MYRIAD PRO BOLD (the rather standard font Apple uses for their printed/online titlings).

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE? BARELY ANY.

(but I'm sure you know which one is more discriminated against!)

Wood and marble

Some people may argue that the only 'ugly' item here is the author's stumpy toes and the terrible quality of the camera phone image, or how the place looks seemingly uninhabited / full of dussssst. Very valid statements, for Parquet and Broken Marble are two everlasting interior fixtures that are still going strong in the hearts and minds of Malaysian home owners and are not 'ugly things'! But new property developers have opted for homogeneous tiles now because broken marble is out of fashion liao...

Still I prefer terrazzo to marble. Maybe because it comes in squares. Why must it be broken marble?? If they can break it to fit everywhere as a very random organic jigsaw puzzle, is it so much harder to assemble it in a more geometric way? (yes it's harder and more expensive probably).

PS I wonder how come people so takut termites attack laminate flooring but never think of all the existing parquet in so many Malaysian homes since the mid-90s? Wood also kan...

Many posts about flooring to ensue...

SOFTER THAN EVER

MY DATE WITH A VAMPIRE
(note: This vampire has blue iris ah, but it's not because of coloured contacts — it is treated with a sort of anti-anti-red eye filter... maybe just two dots of blue in a digital imaging program. Very amusing.

Technically this could be a Hong Kong design, but here at UGLY MALAYSIANA, we are very inclusive and embrace diversity.

Imagine there's no countries, it's easy if you try.

Beck Hansen print on a tanktop

This is my neighbour's gate. Stainless steel (I think) – a popular termite-free option for house fixtures. What caught my eye is the familiar facial features of a Western singer I greatly enjoy in my SPM-days (ten years ago) — the face of Beck printed on the surface of a tanktop! Is my neighbour a fan!? Can we begin trading B-sides?!

FUDGE ZONE WAFFLE STALL

COUNT HOW MANY PHOTOSHOP EFFECTS THERE ARE IN THE ABOVE PHOTO. This is called Free-Spirited Design!

The author in comfortable clothes for an express bus, giving a thumbs-up in advance to the rather lonesome FUDGE ZONE establishment located somewhere along the North-South Highway. He was very happy with his purchase of the chocolate/butter waffle, even though it was a tad soggy. But he blames the soggyness on it (the waffle) being in the plastic bag for a tad too long! Photographed by famous Malaysian artist [NAME RETRACTED].

Transgender

A shop selling 'trans-orient' cheongsams in One Utama displayed this rather misleading bunting. Is the model a success story for sex reassignment surgery (SRS)?

A bit like "Tranz" jewelry by Poh Kong ya, but that's for another day.

A description of a house by a rich Chinese man.

Excerpts:

It displays vastness of full height windows & has view of magnificent greenery besides the condo unit.

It is my Dream Home as it is a truly well crafted lifestyle masterpiece that reflects the fruits of my success, style & taste. / …signals that I have achieved certain goals in Life. / …embraces my soul in enriching blissful moments with my family of six, with living space that exudes openness & freedom.

(Picture shall not be posted, but just picture a rather ostentatious multi-million ringgit condominium that looks like a very expensive karaoke bar)

Wonderful! "Time" and the Malaysian "busiNEss TOdAy"

These two covers were spotted a few months back in the most inspiring late-night magazine store in Taman Tun Dr Ismail: Jaseema. Notice the masthead to the Malaysian magazine: it is designed in a way that incorporates both upper and lower case letters in the same word! Ingenious!

Both are also bespectacled subjects. Mr. Steve Jobs is wearing rimless glasses from German-based Lunor. The datuk on the right, not sure lah...

Rather obscene
